Art After Hours: Making Her Mark
Inspired by the exhibition Making Her Mark: A History of Women Artists in Europe, 1400-1800, Melissa Hullman performs a program of traditional, contemporary, improvisational, and original works composed by or inspired by women artists. From an original work inspired by 12th century visionary polymath and composer Hildegard von Bingen's Aer Enim Volat, to Pulitzer prize-winning classical composer Jennifer Higdon's entrancing Smoky Mountain Air, to improvisations inspired by composer Florence Price and the life and work of Élisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun, this evening's performance in the BMA's cathedral-esque Contemporary Wing Rotunda/Ruth Blaustein Rosenburg Rotunda showcases the luminous artistry of women through the ages.
